McGee Airways changed its name to Alaska Airlines in 1944. Alaska Airlines was incredibly supportive of Alaska becoming an official U.S. state. On January 3, 1959, Alaska became the 49th U.S. state.

Wenstrup created an online petition Thursday, asking Alaska Airlines to "pull their images with the wording 'Meet our Eskimo.'" By Thursday evening, the petition had 165 supporters.
