Johns Hopkins University said it would eliminate more than 2,000 jobs after the Trump administration rescinded funding for thousands of international aid projects.

Johns Hopkins University announced Thursday it's laying off over 2,000 employees amid budget cuts made by the Trump administration.

Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland, announced on Thursday it is eliminating more than 2,200 employees because of cuts to funding from the U.S. Agency for International Development, according to multiple news outlets.

The termination of more than $800 million in [U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID)] funding is now forcing us to wind down critical work here in Baltimore and internationally,” a spokesperson for the school said in an email.

Most of the layoffs will impact international employees, with 1,975 positions eliminated across 44 countries, along with 247 jobs in the U.S.
