NEW YORK — CBS is axing “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert” in May 2026, the host told an audience at a taping Thursday.

In a statement to CBS News, Paramount said “The Late Show” franchise will end in May 2026, the end of the broadcast season, and that the decision to pull the plug was for financial reasons only.

During the taping of the opening to tonight's show, Stephen Colbert addressed with the audience the news that "The Late Show" was ending.
