A devastating fire on Tybee Island took everything from four local women on Tuesday, but now, their community is stepping in to help them begin to rebuild.

No trip to Tybee Island is complete without visiting the majestic 145-foot-tall lighthouse that overlooks Georgia’s coast. With 178 steps leading up to it, the climb is more accessible than most.

For the first time in 30 years, the city of Tybee Island issued the organizers a special event permit from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. that day, for the area of the beach just north of the pier.
