PETA sent a letter to The Punxsutawney Groundhog Club’s president, Tom Dunkel, asking if they can replace the animal with a weather reveal cake instead.

PETA told Fox News Digital that it has not received a response from the Punxsutawney Groundhog Club, and called for the organization to develop "kinder, innovative" traditions that make animals happy.

PETA has made similar proposals in previous years. In 2024, the group suggested replacing Phil with a giant coin, while in 2022, they recommended using a persimmon tree for weather predictions.
