The pandemic was just another of the many challenges Mount Zion First Baptist Church of Baton Rouge has faced — and survived — in its rich history.

Mount Zion Baptist Church is led by the Rev. Shirley Howard, who last year became the first woman pastor in the history of the church. Howard has been a member of the Mount Zion for close to 50 years.
