Thailand's 88-year-old king, the world's longest reigning monarch, has shown signs of improvement following surgery for narrowing of the arteries, the palace said in a statement on Sunday.

Paetongtarn Shinawatra, a scion of Thailand’s most famed and divisive political dynasty, won the endorsement of the king on Sunday to officially become the country’s new prime minister.
