NYC high school student has asylum case denied, judge orders he be deported following ICE arrest
NEW YORK CITY (WABC) -- A New Jersey immigration judge has ordered the deportation of a Bronx high school student who has spent more than four months in federal custody. Dylan Lopez Contreras, 20, was seeking asylum from his native Venezuela, which the judge denied. His attorneys plan to appeal the decision.
The man, who has not been publicly identified, died roughly 18 hours after arriving at the jail, News 12 Long Island reported. The New York State Attorney General’s Office has also launched an investigation into the death.
