Hooters has closed multiple restaurants after a bankruptcy declaration, shifting towards a franchise-based model and selling company-owned locations to streamline operations.
Hooters said in a statement to USA TODAY that the closed stores were company-owned and called the closures a "difficult decision."
Hooters in Farmingdale, the last remaining location of the wing and sports bar chain on Long Island, will stay open amid national closures spurred by the restaurant's bankruptcy filing earlier this year.
Hooters has closed dozens of restaurants nationwide just a few months after filing for bankruptcy as a slump in consumer sentiment continues to hit casual dining chains hard. Around 30 locations were shuttered across Florida, Georgia, Michigan, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Texas, according to local news outlets.
Hulk Hogan's beer brand, Real American Beer, is spearheading a bid for the entire Hooters of America business, including the chain's restaurants, according to a report from Business Insider. Real American Beer CEO Terri Francis confirmed this move to the outlet as he made it clear that the wrestling legend was all in on saving the Hooters brand.
