Germany is not planning to recognise a Palestinian state in the short term and said its priority now is to make "long-overdue progress" towards a two-state solution, a German government spokesperson said on Friday.

Anger over Israel’s conduct in Gaza has left it increasingly isolated as key allies move toward declarations of Palestinian statehood.

As other European governments are hardening their position on Israel with respect to the humanitarian disaster in Gaza, Germany is under growing pressure.
