“We have ten members that are actively and currently training to the swiftwater rescue technician level. Everyone in the department is trained to the awareness level which basically entails that you are able to recognize the hazards, spot the hazard, and how to protect yourself and know what not to get involved into,” Starn said.

Residents of Fairmont Village Apartments are left homeless after a flash flood caused the building to collapse, with Fairmont State University providing shelter for those affected.

Fortunately, unlike the Wheeling disaster, Fairmont had no loss of life and nobody unaccounted for. Morrisey confirmed to reporters the recovery of six bodies in the Wheeling area and two more are still being sought in the aftermath of the flooding.
