On Tuesday, for just the second time this season, McNeil was penciled in as the Mets center fielder for a second straight day.

NEW YORK — Mets president of baseball operations David Stearns revealed that the team will be “active” in the trade market for a relief pitcher on Monday. If they can’t pull off a deal for bullpen arms, then they’ll “begin to think” about promoting some of their top prospects from within, namely starters Brandon Sproat and Nolan McLean.

As talented as veteran ace Kodai Senga is, everyone knows that he alone can’t save the second-place Mets. Senga struggled in Monday’s 7-5 comeback victory over the Angels, allowing four runs and walking three in three innings.

David Stearns identified the club’s No. 1 trade deadline need as bullpen help. The Mets president of baseball operations will seek external additions.

Former Tennessee Vols outfielder Drew Gilbert has been tearing it up recently for the Syracuse Mets, the New York Mets' Triple-A affiliate. Gilbert's recent hot streak has had Mets and Vols fans wondering if the 24-year-old centerfielder could be on the verge of a call-up.
