NEW YORK — Mets president of baseball operations David Stearns revealed that the team will be “active” in the trade market for a relief pitcher on Monday. If they can’t pull off a deal for bullpen arms, then they’ll “begin to think” about promoting some of their top prospects from within, namely starters Brandon Sproat and Nolan McLean.
As talented as veteran ace Kodai Senga is, everyone knows that he alone can’t save the second-place Mets. Senga struggled in Monday’s 7-5 comeback victory over the Angels, allowing four runs and walking three in three innings.
David Stearns identified the club’s No. 1 trade deadline need as bullpen help. The Mets president of baseball operations will seek external additions.
