A long-track storm is expected to eye the U.S. next week after leaving at least seven dead in the Cabo Verde islands. Heavy rains from Tropical Storm Erin killed seven people in Cabo Verde, and as it moves westward across the Atlantic, the system is now being closely watched by U.S. forecasters.

Tropical Storm Erin has developed just west of the Cabo Verde Islands, becoming the fifth named storm of the 2025 Atlantic hurricane season. While there are no coastal watches or warnings in effect, the system is forecast to strengthen as it moves west across the open Atlantic.
