At least 66 people were killed and 51 injured as a fire ripped through a ski resort hotel in northwestern Turkey on Tuesday, according to the country’s interior ministry.

A mayor is firing back at critics after a fire at a ski-resort killed 76 guests in Turkey's Bolu province. Bolu mayor Tanju Özcan wrote on X that the allegations of misconduct prior to the fire involving him were “lies and slander.”

Witnesses have described standing helplessly and paralyzed by the horror of people screaming for help or jumping out of windows as flames tore through a 12-story hotel at a popular ski resort.
