Williams has struggled immensely in recent weeks and this season, allowing at least one earned run in eight of his last 14 games and posting a 5.73 ERA overall in his first year with the Yankees.

Williams’ first pitch of the inning soared to the backstop, allowing Jose Altuve — the Astros’ automatic runner and the go-ahead run — to advance to third base. A few pitches later, Carlos Correa golfed a two-strike changeup into shallow center field for a go-ahead single.
