Officials at the Department of Homeland Security and the Defense Department are racing to set up multiple tent facilities in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, to house thousands of migrants, but the scattered efforts have prompted questions internally about who’s in charge and what will happen once people arrive on site.

The president wants to send 30,000 immigrants in the country illegally to the Cuban naval base infamous for its role during the War on Terror. How will he do it?

President Donald Trump, who made the deportation of immigrants a central part of his campaign and presidency, said the U.S. will use a detention center at Guantánamo Bay, Cuba, to hold tens of thousands of the "worst criminal aliens.

As tents went up in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba to hold migrants, attorneys at the Department of Homeland Security and Pentagon were still trying to determine whether it was legal to take the unprecedented step of flying migrants from the US southern border to the facility,

President Trump has said the U.S. naval base at Guantánamo Bay would house what he called the "worst" migrants. Still, according to both internal government documents and U.S. officials, the administration is also sending nonviolent detainees who do not have serious criminal records or in some cases any criminal records at all.

The Trump Administration is backing away from a previous promise to only send the "worst of the worst" to Guantanamo Bay, and according to CBS News, has been sending non-violent, low risk undocumented migrants to facilities at Guantanamo Bay during the repatriation process.
