Habitat for Humanity of Kansas City is opening the doors for another family to move into the Wendell Phillips neighborhood.

A 14-year-old boy is hospitalized with a gunshot wound after a shooting near Wendell Phillips Academy High School on the South Side, authorities said.

Wendell Rex Phillips Jr., of Lebanon, formerly of Elyria, Ohio, passed away February 13, 2019. He was born September 23, 1953, the son of Wendell Rex and Edith Phillips.
