Air New Zealand will stop direct flights between Wellington and Invercargill next January. Direct services between the two cities will reportedly end on January 19, 2025 due to a drop in demand.

Invercargill Airport chief executive Stuart Harris told First Up about 50,000 people a year flew between Invercargill and Wellington. They'll now have to go via Christchurch, or Auckland.

Air New Zealand's direct flight between Wellington and Invercargill will soon be no more. It's being scrapped, with its last service in mid-January.

For instance, if you want to take the train from the Wellington station to the Upper Hutt station in Hutt Valley, a one-way ticket will cost you 9 New Zealand dollars (about $6.50).
