Victoria Mahoney, director of “The Old Guard 2,” experienced homelessness early in her career. Thanks to sheer grit and a few mentors, she made a big-budget leap.

A vet of the Star Wars universe and the indie world, Mahoney took over from The Old Guard ’s first director Gina Prince-Bythewood after the latter moved on to 2022’s acclaimed The Woman King.
