"He went to the Vietnam War when he was 18 years old and came back whole," said Samuel's sister, Peggy Jackson. Nearly 50 years later, Jackson's body was broken.

The items, USMC camouflage fatigues with the name Bock on them and USMC dress blues, were taken last month from a Milt's Mini storage unit at 3349 Keystone Drive, police said.

As for the famous charge, seven Marines died out of about 450. For less formal occasions when dress blues aren't necessary, Marines wear the service uniform that consists of khaki and green colors.

Despite winning a Purple Heart after being wounded twice in the service, the 83-year-old World War II hero from Normal never had the uniform referred to as "dress blues." Until Thursday, that is.
