Lue was supposed to play for his country in 1997, before an injury left him flying home from Australia alone and unable to be part of the FIBA 22 & Under World Championship.

Lue has been the Los Angeles Clippers' head coach since the 2020-21 season, and he opened up about the Lakers' courting process during an episode of "The Stephen A. Smith Show" a couple of days ago.

Lue was an assistant on Doc Rivers’ staff with the Clippers before taking over when Rivers and the club mutually parted ways following the 2019-20 season. Rivers ended up in Philadelphia.
