Give them your Master Sword. You'll have to pay 10 Rupees. Exit the Smithy and head out of the area to the west, then go back and talk to the blacksmiths again. You'll get the Tempered Sword.

You can also fuse things to the Master Sword, but it doesn't transform permanently -- the new ability is only visible when attacking.
