A competitor in the fancy dance category competes at the 31st Annual Texas Championship Pow-wow at Trader’s Village on Saturday, Nov. 13, 2021 in Houston.
Texas has the fifth-highest number of American Indian or Alaska Natives among all the states, with 136,000, according to the census. In Bexar County, there are 13,000 Native Americans.
The pow wow will also include 46 Native American vendors selling beadwork, clothing, blankets, hats, pottery, books, drums and food. Specially-designed pow wow gear will also be sold at the event.
