Quincy mayor defends $850,000 patron saint statues at public safety building “People in the end will understand that it’s beautiful public art," Quincy Mayor Thomas Koch said in a radio interview.
No tradition exists that would justify erecting statues of St. Michael and Saint Florian in front of a public safety building, according to the letter.
The statues represent the patron saints of police and firefighters respectively, on the new public safety headquarters set to open in October. The pair of bronze statues will cost a combined $850,000.
