The Forest Avenue Business Improvement District held a separate St. Patrick’s Day parade on Staten Island in protest that allowed anyone who wished to march to participate.

Today, the church still honors its Irish heritage, and proudly carries the name St. Patrick Catholic Church of Merna, even though it’s now within the city limits of Bloomington.
