St. Catherine of Siena was a third-order Dominican, peacemaker and advisor to the Pope. She singlehandedly ended the Avignon exile of the successor of St. Peter in the 14th Century.

Pope Pius IX named St. Catherine a co-patroness of Rome in April 1866. Pope Pius XII named Catherine a co-patron saint of Italy in 1939, along with St. Francis of Assisi.

SMITHTOWN, N.Y. -- St. Catherine of Siena Hospital on Long Island is closing its maternity ward at the end of the month. Nurses and patients said it's a devastating blow to the Smithtown community.

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - St. Catherine of Siena Catholic School on Springhill Ave was torn down Friday. The historic building first opened in 1949 and served as a grade school until 1986.
