A retired Fayetteville High School math teacher has been sentenced to life in prison after a Washington County jury found him guilty of raping a child under 14.

Officials said the father was stabbed first, and the mother took her children to safety before returning to help her husband.

The couple were hiking with their two young daughters when they were killed on Saturday. The children were unharmed in the attack.
