Much of the metro received between 2 and 4 inches as a winter storm pushed through the Kansas City area Wednesday, with some areas having less, according to a map of early snowfall totals. This map is based on local storm reports submitted by officials and the public to the National Weather Service.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning beginning late Tuesday night and through Wednesday for the entire region including the Kansas City Metro.

We are expecting hazardous travel for the entire morning commute, and the lunch hour as well. Roads will have accumulating and blowing snow.

The Kansas City area received 16.8 inches of snowfall between November 1, 2024, to Feb. 13, 2025, over 4 inches more than the average during that time frame. If the city receives the average amount of snowfall for the rest of the season, approximately 5 inches, 2024-2025 would be the ninth snowiest season in the 35 years since 1990.

Two to four inches of snow fell Wednesday throughout the Kansas City metro area, but some areas got more than others.

NEXT TUESDAY-WEDNESDAY (SYSTEM #3): This system tracks northwest to southeast along the leading edge of an Arctic blast. It has potential to be a significant snow, but we are way too far out from this storm to make even an educated guess on amounts. What we can tell you is that it is likely all snow, no rain or ice.

As the Kansas City-area is gearing up for another winter storm, cities say public works crews are prepared and ready to go.
