SDHC debuted in 2006 and upped the maximum card size to 32GB—HC stands for High Capacity. SDXC followed in 2009 and expanded the file system to support 2TB cards.
So its either a high quality USB 2.0 stick or a decent Class 10 SDHC card. Either will top out at about 20Mb/s in real world use. I doubt the manufacturer put any money into the speed of reading.
