SANTA CLARA — Robert Saleh is reprising his role as the 49ers’ defensive coordinator, the team announced Friday night. Saleh returns to a vastly different unit than he left behind four years ago.
Robert Saleh, who went 20-36 over three-plus seasons with the Jets before being fired after a 2-3 start last season, said there was no temptation to go anywhere but return to San Francisco.

Saleh replaces Nick Sorensen as defensive coordinator. Shanahan fired Sorensen shortly after the conclusion of the 2024 season. The 49ers were last in the NFC West with a 6-11 record.
