Roanoke area veterans and friends gathered at the Roanoke Valley War Memorial in Freedom Plaza in May 2022 for a Memorial Day ceremony hosted by the Roanoke Valley Veterans Council.

If adults would deal with their own emotions better, it would help the young people who look up to them, said a high school sophomore during the event's panel discussion.
