Fig. 6 shows the resulting voltage deviation (transient response) of the circuit in Fig. 5, when subjected to the desired load step of 200 mA to 1.2 A. Total transient response is +31 mV and +41 mV.

This design (5 ohm, 10 ohm, 25 ohm, 100 ohm) lets me pick any current between 0.05A and 3A (assuming a 5V nominal supply), and to change between them instantly (or very nearly so).
