Currently, 11 states and Washington, D.C. have passed laws to phase out plastic foam. Now, Congress is considering the Farewell to Foam act that would take those phase-out efforts to a national level.
For example, a 48-foot truckload of the foam weighs only around 16,000 pounds, whereas a truckload of densified foam weighs 40,000 pounds, according to the Foodservice Packaging Institute.
