Mountain zebras (Equus zebra) live in the mountainous region along the western side of Namibia and can be found in some areas along the southern edge of South Africa.

There are three species: plains, mountain and Grevy's. Of these, the Grevy's zebra is the largest. An adult can weigh nearly 1,000 pounds and have as many as 80 stripes.

Disney currently has three types of zebra across its resort including Hartmann’s mountain zebra, Grevy’s zebra and plains zebra. Dash is the first zebra birth at Animal Kingdom this year.

The three species of zebra include the Plains, Mountain, and Grevy’s. Although, the Plains zebra is the most abundant, all three species are in peril due mostly to poaching and habitat loss.

The birth of the Hartmann's mountain zebra foal marks the first of the year at Walt Disney World. The long-legged baby boy is already estimated to weigh around 65 pounds.
