The National Weather Service Tuesday assigned an EF-2 rating to the twister after studying scattered signs of damage in its path about 25 miles southwest of North Platte Monday night.

Officials confirmed damage to an estimated 10-15 homes in Bay Ranch and 40-50 homes in Ranchero Village, ranging from minor to severe conditions.

The tornado near Enderlin derailed a dozen empty train tanker cars, and a large derailment of grain cars was reported in Traill County in eastern North Dakota, according to the governor's office.
