A behind-the-scenes billing change in Manitoba’s health care system is expected to ease paperwork for doctors and expand access to hospital care for some of the province’s most vulnerable residents.

The union representing Winnipeg firefighters is urging all levels of government to strengthen legal protections for first responders following a string of violent incidents involving emergency crews.
