Just one of Northern Ireland’s 18 MPs voted through assisted dying legislation in the House of Commons on Friday. While the legislation will not apply to the north, MPs at Westminster voted narrowly by 314 to 291 to pass the Terminally Ill Adults Bill for England and Wales.

After several hours of emotional debate, MPs voted in favour of the bill, which will now be scrutinised by the House of Lords.

British lawmakers on Friday confirmed their support for assisted suicide for some terminally ill people, after months of scrutiny that followed an initial vote last year.
