The Northern Command is the among the seven commands of the Indian Army. The initiative is said to draw inspiration from the Senior Sergeant Major (SMA) structure used in Western militaries.

“U.S. Northern Command is prepared to take on this enhanced relationship and will work with U.S. European Command, Greenland, and the Kingdom of Denmark during the transition,” it continued.
