THIBODAUX, La. — A Nicholls State University student was the victim of an unprovoked hammer attack on Friday, near St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, in what appears to have been a random act.

Nicholls State University says the student has been treated at an area medical facility and has been released. No other information has been provided at this time.
