Art Abounds in New York This May Amid Market Uncertainty As Frieze, TEFAF and other fairs bloom citywide, galleries and auction houses kick into high gear, with showy exhibitions and big-ticket items.

The New York art spring season is in full swing, with five coinciding art fairs—Frieze, Esther, Independent, Spring/Break and TEFAF—announcing the crescendo this week.

Kevin D. Dumouchelle, curator of the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African Art, said 1-54 New York has become an “expected part of the environment” that happens around Frieze week (May 7-11).
