Local tourism-supported jobs in the county totaled 603, an increase from 583 jobs in 2019. In comparison, 2016 tourism revenues totaled $70.6 million in Nelson County.

According to the Virginia Tourism Corporation (VTC), tourism in Virginia generated $30.3 billion in visitor spending in 2022, an increase of 20.3% from 2021, exceeding 2019 levels by 4.4%.

Waynesboro and Nelson County have each received $10,000 grants from Virginia Tourism to go toward marketing efforts aimed at getting visitors to come back as COVID-19 restrictions are lifted.
