Sheikh Nawaf Al Ahmad Al Sabah, the ruling Emir of Kuwait, has died aged, 86 just over three years after assuming power. Kuwait has the seventh largest oil reserves in the world.

The emir of Kuwait, Sheikh Nawaf Al Ahmad Al Sabah, who led the oil-rich nation for the past three years in a low-key reign focused on trying to resolve internal political disputes, died Dec. 16.

Kuwait's ruling emir, the 86-year-old Sheikh Nawaf Al Ahmad Al Sabah, has died, state television reported Saturday. In late November, Sheikh Nawaf was rushed to hospital for an unspecified illness.
