The Mount Horeb Area School District began releasing students at 5 p.m. Wednesday after the district was put on full lockdown about 11:16 a.m. because of an active shooter near the middle school.

Orchard Mesa Middle School Principal Danny Medved said that other schools in the district are “trying to catch up” to Mount Garfield. “That is not a bragging point to me,” Bagwell said.

At approximately 11:11 a.m., a citizen called 911 after witnessing a subject moving toward Mount Horeb Middle School with a backpack and what appeared to be a long gun.
