The Japanese town of Fujikawaguchiko has erected a giant black net to block views of Mount Fuji, a reaction to the town’s huge popularity on Instagram and other social media platforms.
Authorities have also started a new online booking system for the Yoshida trail on Mount Fuji, capping daily hiker entries to 4,000 and imposing a mandatory fee of 2,000 yen.
According to an AFP reporter, workers have installed black netting to block the view in a bid to deter tourists from visiting. The netting measures 2.5 by 20 metres (eight by 65 feet).
