A widely felt earthquake has jolted Hawke’s Bay on Wednesday evening. One resident reported it was a short jolt with the power to shift things on shelves, followed by a long rolling motion.

The lower North Island has been rocked by a magnitude 4.8 earthquake. Over 5000 people have reported feeling the quake.
