A new museum in Independence is opening its door for a the first time for National Train Day on May 11.

Officials said Friday this is to make way for the new Missouri Model Railroad Museum. As a result of the move, the Frontier Trails Museum will close to the public starting on July 1.

The move will allow the Missouri Model Railroad Museum to start remodeling the Waggoner-Gates building, located at 318 W. Pacific, with the goal of opening in Spring 2024.

The National Model Railroad Museum is now moving into its old space while city leaders look to make this Frontier Trails museum the centerpiece of a downtown revitalization.
