This article is for subscribers only. A former manager of Germany’s disgraced Wirecard AG died of blood poisoning in a hospital in Manila, Bild am Sonntag reported, citing the dead man’s mother.

“I have urgently advised my client not to leave Germany. Only here is it safe,” Annette Voges, representing Heinz-Jakob Neusser told Bild Zeitung in comments published on Saturday.

His appointment, however, has been mocked by Bild 's head of sport, Matthias Brugelmann, who has claimed that England turning to a German manager shows their desperation for success.
