Federal immigration raids across LA are sparking fear and protests, but immigrant laborers are still turning up, hoping for work.

In Compton, with its strong oral culture (it’s the hometown of Kendrick Lamar), some protestors were profane and provocative. A few were anarchists, dressed in black and wearing masks, and threw things at the sheriffs.
Monday's protests were largely calmer than Sunday's clashes. California officials insist that the 4,000 National Guards troops and 700 active duty Marines en route to L.A. are an unnecessary abuse of power by Trump.
