Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema have announced a The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum release date, scheduling plans to bring Sméagol’s story to moviegoers December 2027.

A second season is on the way. An animated "Lord of the Rings" movie, "The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim," is also set for release by Warner Bros. on Dec. 13.

Assuming the film will stick to the source material, "The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum" should take place during the events of "The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring".
