Summit Metro Parks will rename the Mingo Trail and Lodge at Sand Run Metro Park to better represent the Indigenous communities that once inhabited the area.

The Palisades Trail complements another trail from Red Lodge to Custer National Forest about 3 miles south of town called the Face of the Mountain, completed in 2011.

Summit Metro Parks announced Mingo Lodge has been renamed Chestnut Lodge and Mingo Trail has been renamed Nuthatch Trail. The lodge and trail are located in Sand Run Metro Park.

The new 4.5 mile connector provides key opportunities for lodging to trail riders from out of state. Parks and HMT officials consider it a win-win.
